Happy Mother’s Day From Gilgal: Meet Sara H.
May 5, 2020

MEET SARA H.  (Gilgal Resident 2011-2012)

My name is Sara H.(formerly Sara D.), and I was a resident of Gilgal for about 10 months from April 2011 to February 2012. I was 25 when I entered the program. I did not graduate, but I learned so many essential life skills during my stay at Gilgal.

When I chose to leave, I left with my boyfriend, who is now my husband, and thought, “I’ve got this,” and felt certain I could manage on my own.  I was unaware of the struggles that awaited me.  I was a meth user for about 15 years.  It cost me everything I’ve ever loved and cared about.  At that point in my life, I had one child. Mother’s Day meant nothing to me.   I didn’t care about her and didn’t want to be bothered with caring for her.  Nor did I want to take care of myself.

Throughout these years and much heartache, something life changing happened.  The Gilgal message finally “clicked.”  This was a major turning point in my life.  Gilgal taught me that I am never alone in life, and the plan for me is in God’s hands.  He is with me always and He wants me to do well and prosper.  As quoted in Jeremiah 29:11,  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.”

Because of Him, my life is very different today. Josalynne, my daughter who I previously mentioned, is my sweet little bug.  I also have a son named Micah. The gift of motherhood is something I am eternally grateful for today.  I’ve been married for five years this August.  I am a pharmacist technician at my local hometown pharmacy and have worked there for two years.  I couldn’t be more proud of the life I’ve worked so hard to achieve.  Between God and my amazing support system, the sky is the limit and I look forward to each new day!

Gilgal changed my life.  I owe Gilgal for my life today and my relationship with the Lord.   I truly enjoy giving back to the ministry knowing my story may help someone one day or even to inspire people to donate to the cause that has helped give my life back.

Happy Mother’s Day to you!  Thank you for your support of Gilgal for mothers like me.  Change happens at Gilgal.  I am living proof!
